I have used both - as my German friends have ordered US models and had them taken back to Germany...They don't hold a candle to the D300, but they are nice compact cameras. I don't like that the fact the will only take AF-S and AF-I lenses. The D60 has only 3 focal points, but has Active D Lighting and noise reduction. Thee are a few more features that are nice, for a hobbyist . I guess its a good starting point in the world of DSLRs.

I think the D70s and the D50 are better cameras, and the D80 seems like a nice jump in features/quality. However, I think Canon has a more "advanced" camera for the price, with the Xsi. The new 18-55 VR is miles better than the first generation of this lens, that I bought with my D50 almost 3 years ago. I'll post pictures here in a few minutes.

wait... I thought the whole point of the d60 was the d40 + motor drive.

    It really doesn't have one?

You need to turn the ISO down. It made your picture blurry :mamoru:

    Dawt!

For a moment I was freaking out when I heard the D60 was coming out because I had just purchased my D80 a week earlier. When I read that it was just a D40x with new software and minor hardware improvements I lol'd.

Stop motion video capabilities ... epic fail.

I wasn't trying to show off the camera's strength. :hs: Going back - there are white balance issues b/c of the Auto WB setting. I went back and changed it to Flash, to allow the CTO to warm it up a bit - and bumped it up about 1/3 Stop. Here is that result -

I was just commenting that the camera is teh suck. I wouldn't buy one. The other picture was of my kid, no wb adjustment or anything. I didn't intend on these pictures to be strong images...but alas this IS OTAP. Home of the L and sackriders of Canon.

Well that is how the camera picked it up strictly in auto WB and in A mode. I just unboxed it and shot it. However - the shot with the strobes was off too - I think the D60 AWB is not accurate especially under normal lights indoors. You can see that with the strobes - the blacks turned bluish - after I looked at it again. My eyes were tired last night. I am not disagreeing with you that Logan looked yellow - I didn't correct that image on purpose.

I'll get some more technically sound pictures this afternoon. IMO, the camera isn't all that much to write home about. I think the Canon Xsi is a better camera at the same price point. It is closer to the D80 in features than it is to the D40, D40x, and D60.
