I just picked up this wonderful little toy, but have come to a bit of an impasse. It seems reluctant to allow me to use standard mp3 tracks as ringtones, though it'll allow me to select them for an alarm ringer, or message alert. Is there some kind of limitation in regards to file length/size for mp3 use as standard ringtones?

FUCKING ATT FAGGOTS!!! now that i've gotten that out of my system... Thanks man... i appreciate the help... though that does bring up another question: How the fuck do i go about flashing my phone? It's something i've never had to do before, and the whole process might as well be written in ancient Klingon for all the good it'd do me.

If you don't want to do that, then 300kb is the filesize limit.

I thought with SE phones, you can put any MP3 song as the ringtone, and it'll play the first 20-30 seconds of it?

With my w300, it would play the track until the phone kicked the call back to voicemail. If VM didn't pick up after 4 "rings" or so, then theoretically, yeah, it'd play the whole song.

With the w580i, it's not a matter of the phone itself, but with ATT's firmware that poses the limitation. Hence flashing the phone to replace the firmware with something else, while not destroying functionality with ATT's systems.
