is that most of us that used to post in every thread giving good, sound advice have now stepped back to watch what the new generation of e-experts are posting. This forum has pretty much gone from finding the solution to the problem at hand, to telling everyone that they need a bigger alternator, a deep cycle battery, the "Big 3" ( :greddy: ), and some elitest internet brand to have the best sound ever. Oh and that no one should ever install rear speakers, even if they just finished the job 5 minutes ago.

    :ugh:

cliffs: i miss the old H&CA. :sadwavey:

:o Rear speakers are nothing but problems. They can be done right but why would you want to dump the cash and time into 'em unless you're watching movies in your car?

    ...or have family, or friends.

you don't have to amp them... you can run them off deck power, and fade them in when you have passengers.

I can agree with a lot of that, though this post almost sounds like it was directed at me (somewhat...)

Bigger alternator..probably not needed for most people. Especially with a ~1000 watt class D amp.

Deep Cycle Battery...also not needed for most people, unless you will be running your battery down sitting in parking lots/car shows quite a bit.

Big 3...I disagree. This is probably the single best cheap mod you can do to your audio system (costs what....$30 at most). Not everyone is going to agree with me, I can live with that.

Elitist Brands....not at all necessary, but some of the entry level components from some of these manufacturers (Zapco, etc...) actually sound really really good and are on par w/ non-elitist brands as far as price is concerned. There is nothing wrong w/ the tried & true household namebrands (MTX, Kicker, Alpine, JL Audio, Infinity), nor is there anything wrong with some of the DIY brands (Vifa, Morel, TangBand, etc...)

Rear speakers...well, you don't NEED them, but I usually install them on my own vehicles

nah, not really directed at you. this has been going on for a while before you joined OT. Besides, you've given me enough to not throw out your noob opinion immediatly. :mamoru:

Don't get me wrong, I agree with the Big 3, I just think the name is the homofuckingfagmus ghey. It really is a valid upgrade. The name just needs an upgrade.

As for the elite brands....I see many post that someone should use them, but I've only seen a couple of folks post pics that they ACTUALLY use them.

My view has always been this: find the best solution for the person with the question. Not everyone walking in a sound store are looking to totally revamp their audio system. Sometimes they really just want to replace that rear speaker that buzzes when they listen to Elvis goes Vegas. So when they say "what is a good brand at BB to replace my speakers" that's really what they want.

I agree with that statement completely. Many people just want it to sound somewhat better, not IASCA/USACi/etc... competition level. For a lot of people, Dual could be an ok choice (but I still won't recommend them)

When I get a customer asking for el-cheapo brands, I try to pursuade them to spend a few extra dollars and get the name brand. I explain the pros/cons of each. Often times I will keep some higher margin, lower priced units on hand and then mark them way down when they want to cheap out (I've been known to sell at cost at these times) What that does is A) Make the customer feel like they just got the deal of the century B) introduce the customer to higher-end sound...usually they get hooked and come back and buy upgrades over time.
