so what i know about F1 racing is that Schumacher makes tons of money racing for Ferrari which is always winning, and sometimes other teams call ferrari cheating, etc....

i also know theres honda, toyota, MB, bmw, etc.. racing...

-so why is F1 considered the "major league" of racing?
-honda is known for 4 bangers.. how can they compete w/ these other car comps. that put out v12s?
    -why does ferrari keep winning?
-is F1 only used as a "test bed" for new car technology?
-is there anything else i should know about F1 racing?

-so why is F1 considered the "major league" of racing?

    Prestige, popularity, technology/money involved

-honda is known for 4 bangers.. how can they compete w/ these other car comps. that put out v12s?

Do I really have to even answer this...just because they put out production economy cars doesnt mean they dont have the capability of putting out a v10 monster.

    -why does ferrari keep winning?

    Drivers, engineers, motors.

-is F1 only used as a "test bed" for new car technology?

no...there is technology on F1/CART/IRL cars that will never be on a production car, because it would be useless. Noone needs to know your front right tire pressure on your daily driver.

Corvettes and Hummers both have individual tire pressure monitoring that I can think of right off the top of my head. Ferrari and BMW have very fast shifting clutchless manual paddle-shifting systems in their production cars now.

I'm talking about wireless data transmission to an engineer from the Pi system on the car. Noone is gonna be sitting at home watching, recording every piece of data about your car.

Sure this is still new car technology I guess, but only for race technology. This applies to many other things on the car also.

F1 racing is more boring to watch than Nascar.

Perhaps its because Honda wants to make economy cars, and they have their race division to advertise their name.

-so why is F1 considered the "major league" of racing?
They compete on more parts of the world compared to Champ Cars, NASCAR, etc. BTW they crank out 900+ hp from a 3.0L V10. Holler.

-honda is known for 4 bangers.. how can they compete w/ these other car comps. that put out v12s?
Honda has been competing in F1 for decades. They used to own when they were with McLaren, and Ayrton Senna was driving. They tried getting back into F1 with naturally aspirated engines, but it just ain't working out.

    -why does ferrari keep winning?
    They have THE BIGGEST budget.

-is F1 only used as a "test bed" for new car technology?
    No.

-is there anything else i should know about F1 racing?
This season should be a great one, with Schumacher having to fight off Montoya, Raikkonen and Alonso. It's gonna be awesome. I'm pretty sure that the Williams, McLaren, Ferrari and Renault cars will perform pretty much equally this season, with the differences only coming down to the driver and tire choice.

F1 is my favorite type of auto racing. Along with MotoGP. Nascar is extremely boring. Who wants to see a bunch of people turn left over and over? Formula 1 is about skill and technology. They exceed 200mph and take corner after corner. When F1 started out there were no really safety devices and they were losing a driver almost every month. Its a risk and an honor to be a F1 driver. As for the Honda not making a V10, what is the point of Honda making a V10 race car for the road? Honda is good at what they're doing. They have perfected the economy car market. No need to put out a high horsepower machine. Why fix it if it's not broke?

omg what are you on about?? it seems like u just came out of the woods or something.. V12's?? the last V12 in F1 died out in the early 90's, and Ferrari Started winning in 2000 after a 21 year drought (1979 with Jody Scheckter) Basically they have the best driver, Rory Byrne, along with Adrian Newey (Mclaren) considered as two of the best fluid dynamics engineers, Paulo Martinelli is an Engine Genius and Ross Brawn has an understanding of modern racing few can equal.. Todt knows how to run a team and motivate the excellent engineers and pit crew, along with the longest Racing history on the grid, a copuous helping of experience, alot of financial backing and voila u have Ferrari..

No, it's not a "test bed", all technology on an F1 car is developed for racing and with the aim to win races, some of this technology is then transferred to cars later on.. but the car industry is atleast 5 - 7 years behind F1..

And it's considered the Supreme Racing league beacuse of the staggering technology involved, the incredible pace of development and the blistering speeds of the cars. basically these are the fastest cars in the world (in terms of going around a closed circuit).
