What lenses and what body? You may want to step to Z or X series to avoid vignetting.

For the 17mm, and full frame, I'd go for Z-pro at the least.

Filter thread, yeah. But it sticks out in front of the lens, and the retainer-clippy things that hold on the filters have vignetted on wider lenses for some of my friends who have full frame cameras (I'm waiting on the 5D MK II dammit!). Even my Z holder showed up in the frame if I had 3 or more filter retainer clips on it, I have it at 2 right now. (when I saw it in the pictures I was at or near 17mm on a 1.3x crop body)

Ive got the cokin P series holder and a 3-stop hard and a 2 stop soft for the 17-40L. Should get you going in the right direction. I havent found a situation yet where I needed something else ( shoot mostly landscape )

    Try 2filters.com nice folks.
