I wrote this down while listening to one of his audio interviews, good stuff. My favorite part is bolded of course.

    Quit aspiring to be sub-par.

Dave Tate has a way with words, "Under the Bar" is a pretty good read for those that have not read it yet.

You're the kind of person he's talking about :p (not GT).

If you put something like a 300lb bench on a pedestal it makes it that much harder to reach.

well my bench sucks balls too but I'm working on it and anything less then a 550+lb bench is pathetic given the gear that is out there.

I'd say 500+ is a must if you want to be competitive. Some people just have shitty benches in relation to other lifts but make up for it with huge squats and pulls.

Like this guy who works with EFS: "Karl's best lifts are 1010 squats, 505 bench, and 670 deadlift with a 2175 total in the 275 weight class." He has an amazing squat but the bench just seems a bit low in relation to me, but there could be a variety of reasons for that. And 505 is nothing to sneeze at anyway.

Very true, but especially in the APF were you can were a 4 ply shirt a 500-550 is really the bottom line. Single Ply feds are a different story but still 500+ is an attainable goal.

I plan on hitting 500 in a single ply in the near future. Single ply shirts are getting nuts now anyway, the Katana is supposed to be the balls but I havn't had an opportunity to check one out yet. I think my training partner is getting one and he's done 540 in a 1 ply Fury.

I dont think too many people really use 3-ply denims and shit. The majority of APF lifters use 2-ply polys and denims which are more than enough, right?

I know at least on lifter who uses a 4 ply EHPHD and gets some sick carryover from it although his bench is only about 650 and he is a 308. I'd like to give the Katana a try or any Titan shirt for that matter which I think I may after the meet in August or I may get a denim that is actually cut to my specs. I gave the rage-X a try and fuckin hated it.

I'm only in competition with myself, and altho I do somewhat put 300lbs on a "pedestal" perse and respect the achievement, I see it as a very attainable goal.

Would you rather we sackride someone that doesn't work out his upper body with weights?
