Last night I'm rolling with one of the other students at school, and he is trying to work guard passes, so we're starting with him in my guard and going from there. During the 10 minutes or so we rolled I used an x guard sweep and swept him from spider guard. However, I suck hard at sweeps from guard. Some things that should be way harder (x guard) are easier to me than sweeping from guard.

Flame on. It's just frustrating to hit some things that seemed so unobtainable when I first started doing this mess and then not being able to hit some very basic scissor sweep or something from guard.

sweeps used to suck for me, it helped me to pick one and just work it until you can smash everyone with it.

I really think it's that I don't know many, and the one that I'm trying to rely on (scissors sweep) is so damn reliant on the weight transfer that I'm having trouble with.

I would honestly rather be in somebodys guard and be actively trying to work on getting out than be a sitting duck with somebody in my guard basically waiting for them to pass.

Dont rely on just one sweep, learn several that you can implement depending on your opponents pressure and posture. Dont try to scissor sweep when your opponent has made good posture, try a situp / high hip sweep instead, or break your opponents posture, then look for the scissor sweep. I wouldnt get stuck on trying to force one technique, but rather flow through several.

Dude... my legs are so short I can't get closed guard on half the people I roll with. And I'm so thin I can't put pressure on them to get their guard open.
