Haven't posted anything in months, so here's some shots from last week in Katmai National Park. Shot with 1d mkII and 500 f/4 IS and 40d with 100-400 IS...

Nice shots! 500L would be so much fun to have in a place like that.

I'm too scared to go to parks like that unless I could pack heat.

Awesome. I took a cruise up the inside passage. The best 500 bones I ever spent.

Thanks for all your comments. As for how close I was to the bears - alot of them were taken from one of a viewing platform that Katmai has set up overlooking Brooks Falls which puts you probably 30 feet away. The bears, although still very dangerous and wild, are used to humans so you can get close easily. A lot of the non-falls pics were from probably 50 yards.

I absolutely loved Alaska. Unfortunately, I didn't have a camera when I went so I was using my dad's SD500, and even more unfortunately, my dad changed the resolution on the camera mid-trip down to 640x480 :(.

    small pics are small.

(the yellow things are a tent and kayak)

I definitely plan on returning to Alaska some day.
