Got bored, went for a walk, and snapped some pics along the way. Comments/Critique? Camera is Nikon D70 with 18-70.

you're on campus, therefore there are many chicks into experimenting and trying new things. Yet I see no pics of people

I like them. Maybe you should have used some fill flash on the first one though?

#3 and #5 are very well done. #5 is something we see pictures of everyday. If you're going to do flowers you need to do something very original with the composition. Maybe the 'myspace angles'...

#3 really speaks. It's the best of the lot. If it were old school, I'd try maybe a sepia or somesuch. To make this one better, I would have been a bit more perpendicular to the wall. I bet you would have caught it if you'd taken more shots.

#1 could be good. The short depth of field helps pull attention away from the palm background. The color contrast with the background hurts it, imo. The color contrast in the foreground (flowers) helps it. Try converting this one to b&w. If you're really a PS whiz, go b&w but leave the flowers in color.

Overall, though, you should take more shots. Once you find an interesting subject, take at least 10 shots, experimenting with the composition. It's digital so there's not even the expense of film and developing. It'll give you the chance to see what works and what doesn't.

Again, I'm no expert, but the artistic commentary in this forum is deplorable.
