So I am going on a lean mass diet. (Insert fag comments here) but yea it is Florida and the beach season is back. I am pretty fuckin lean already but just want to put the icing on the cake, while maintaining most of the size and strength I have gained so I have completed a meal plan high in protein, high in complex carbs with simple carbs PWO and tons of good fats from nuts and fish...

So I have a few ?'s and I am sure TIMBERMAN can help out since he is like the definition of lean.

-What nuts should I buy to be eating? Almonds or some sort of low sugar trail mix?

-I am going to start eating avocados, never even tried one besides in sushi, how the fuck do you prepare them or eat them? lol :hs:

-As far as brown rice goes, should I just buy a big bag of it? Is that instant brown rice good or is it actually processed?

-For my sweet potatoes, what do you guys like putting on them? I hear Splenda is great.

-I like just plain nuts. Depends on whether you're concerned about added sugar or not.

-Avocados: put 'em on sammiches, cut 'em up in salads, mmmm mmm good

-instant rice is crap(to me at least), get the real stuff. But keep a box of instant around for quick meals.

    Nuts:
Almonds- not blanched or honey roasted. Salted is OK.
    Cashews- Same

Avocados- Buy them slightly firm with a semi-shiny skin. Cut in half along the noth/south pole. Get the seed out with the blade of a knife. Swift and firm tap of the blade and twist. Cut in half length wise again and scoop out with a spoon. A little salt and pepper, squeeze of lime wedge and eat.

Brown rice- Get the bagged kind NOT minute rice. Buy a rice cooker. If you want variations of rice then try long grain wild. It taked longer to cook but is good for a change of pace. I have also seen brown Jasmine rice also.

Sweet Potatoes- Wrap in plastic wrap, DO NOT poke holes in it and microwave. A little butter or S&P.

i like both raw and roasted almonds... they're plain, you can take em anywhere, and they're easy to eat.

cut avocado in half, take out the seed, cut into slices, eat it. goes well w/ just about anything.. steak, chicken, hamburger.. whatev

buy normal brown rice in a bag.

sweet potatoes are really good w/ cinnamon and sugar/splenda depending on when you eat em.

how much fat is in an average sized avocado ?

    texchef Guest

The average avocado has the following:

    227 calories
    175 calories from fat
    21g fat
    3g saturated fat
    12g carbs
    9g dietary fiber
    3g protein

They are very high in Vitamin K and Folate. Good for bulking not so good for cutting.

It has been processed to make it cook quicker. Most of the nutrients have been removed during thier inital cooking process before it is freeze dried. It's all a sales ploy to get you to buy it thinking it is better.

Exactly, it's just par-cooked rice. They don't physically change anything about the rice (as in they don't add or purposely remove any nutrients), but like most convenience foods, it's not as good as the natural product.

nuts - almonds are good, but pretty calorie dense b/c of the fat content... i get the plain, raw almonds and also mix it up. blue diamond has BOLD almonds that are flavored and really really good w/out sacrificing any of the nutritional value (just a little higher in sodium, iirc)

avocado - cut it in half... stick the knife in and rotate the avocado until it's in 2 halves. twist and pull them apart. stick the tip of the knife into the seed (be careful you don't cut yourself, they can be slippery) and twist to get the seed out... easy... then, dig the avocado out of the skin and eat however. put some lemon juice on it so that it doesn't turn black/brown as fast. personally, i like to eat mine with some lemon juice, a little oil (or salad dressing) and pepper on top of tuna

brown rice - i just get a big bag and cook it in a rice cooker. i've never had instant, so i can't really comment, but i love brown rice and a rice cooker is the easiest way to go about it

sweet potato - i usually chop mine up... cut it into quarters, then slice the quarters width-wise, so you get little wedges. put the wedges into foil, sprinkle with cinnamon, close the foil, throw in the oven at 400 degrees. they're done when you can smell them cooking real good (should be about 25 or so minutes... maybe a little longer). i eat them just like this or mash 'em up when they're still warm... just make sure you get the lighter (yellow fleshed) sweet potatoes instead of the darker (orange flesh) yams...

wow, that was a lot of writing... hope someone reads it...

    I'm just talking taste/texture wise, I should've clarified- I much prefer long-grain regular. :)

    Easy guac:

    1 avacado
    2 teaspoons of cilantro
1 medium sized tomato diced (you can add more depending on your preference)
    1 teaspoon of lemon juice
    salt and pepper to taste

    Mix it all up.

I fucking hate avacados, but I make guacamole for my gf since she loves it.

I read it, I was just sleeping last night..lol Thanks for the ideas, they are much appreciated. Someone said avocados are only good when bulking but I have seen them used in many cutting/lean mass diets even though high in fat, they are good fats.
