Went to a winter Solo2 event on Sunday. The lighting wasn't the best, and I wasn't using the world's greatest lens (Sigma 70-300mm 4.0-5.6).

All pics were taken with my Canon 300D, and the only thing done to them is auto contrast and auto colour (plus the black border).

So other than buying a better lens, do people have any suggestions?

I want to be able to get the car in focus, with motion blur in the background... but with the way the course was setup this time I couldn't get close enough to a fast area to do that, and the course was so slushy, there weren't any really fast areas.

I think the pic of the 2nd WRX is probably the best picture I've ever taken :dunno:

I also noticed that the pictures were a little washed out, hence the auto contrast / colour. Would a neutral density filter help this?

I've tried to get a good "pan" with my parents dog and almost got it.

That tutorial should set you in the right direction. I want to head out to a drag race or a solo 2 event in town to try out whats in that tutorial. Good luck.

no, you kept making fun of me for my camera being plastic (see my sig)...

I couldn't justify the money for the 10D... I could barely justify spending the money on a rebel. But I love it. And I bought an SD100 as a pocket camera (sold my olympus C-3020)

so... do you think a 1 or 2 stop ND filter might help?? or would it just be a waste of my money?
