I'm in the market for a new suit but I don't want to drop a ton of money (under $300. I'm not a baller like the rest of OT). My shoulders are much wider than my waist and I wear tapered dress shirts. Is there a particular kind of jacket/cut/fit that I should look for in a suit? Some make me feel like a giant rectangle. Others are tighter and I think they look better but I could be wrong.

Ok here are the rest of my questions:

    1. 2 or 3 buttons? I like 3 button suits because when I wear my current suit (2 button), when I button just the top button, the jacket flaps open at the bottom and you can see the bottom of my tie. I think that looks retarded. With a 3 button suit when you button the top two, it prevents this from happening because it forces the sides of the jacket to be inline. However, someone told me that 3 button suits are going out of style. True?

    2. What's the best color? My current suit is dark grey, but I was thinking about getting a black one. This suit would be to wear to job interviews/formal business meetings/weddings/whenever I need a suit. I'm northern European descent and I have pale skin and light brown hair. It seems like 99% of suit/clothes models I see are dark skinned and dark hair Italian looking guys, and what looks good on them doesn't look good on me.

    3. Where should I look besides department stores/Target/Men's Wearhouse? Or are those good places?

    Thanks.

    2 button FTW.

    Black or Light grey.

Depends on your budget. Zara has some nice suits, or you can go ballerific with a Zegna :o

    Why 2 button?

Is the problem I have with 2 button suits typical of 2 button suits, or is mine just cut wrong for my body?

edit - like mine does this even when my hands aren't in my pockets pulling the jacket back:

Hmmm that's the fit that I want, tho. Is that a good fit or would you say his jacket is too tight.

In your opinion or in everyone's opinion?

Maybe I'm glad I have a 2 button suit now. I should put it on and post pics and you guys can tell me what's wrong with it.

all my suits are 3 button
i think its slimming on tall people
and though i have no problem with 2 button suits, another reason i like the 3 button is that since the chest is higher, the suit keeps to your body snugger..when you reach for things or lean over it doesnt open up from the front (like a lowcut tanktop...i dont know if i'm explaining it well enough :o)

Yes, that's what I don't like about 2 button suits.

I find a two button jacket much easier to work with during an interview.

Taking advice on suits or give me an EDU

I need suits for a possible new career.

I also need the dress shirts to go along with them and ties. I have no idea how to match them up. I've lost 50 pounds so alot of my old stuff doesnt fit me.

with that large of a change to your body, it would probably work better to just get a whole new suit than have your current ones dramatically altered.

as for colors if you're just getting one or two i'd stick to black, navy or charcoal. (pinstripes optional)

these colors are the most traditional (read: professional) as well as the easiest to pair with shirts and ties

will you be wearing a full suit for work? or just shirt and tie?

As basic as you can get...

Black suit, white shirt, solid tie.
