Every week we ask five students a question, then put their answers on the back page. I have been volunteering more and more for this to get more practice at portraits so CC is always welcome.

  2. 1 looks alittle soft in the eyes nose mouth. Hair looks pretty sharp though :bigthumb:

The rest look good for newspaper shots, if anything maybe bump up the exposure on #2 a tiny bit, or increse the "fill light" in LR.

werd, these are all no PP. Unfortunitly they are gonna be 8 bit greyscale for print so I did not mess with anything.

This is also the first time doing center weighting on focus and metering for portraits. I think next time I will bump up the Fstop to around 5.6 and try to get more of the face in the focal plane.

    thanks for the imput :bigthumb:

I need more pix to give a better critique. (not of the guy tho)

  15. :hsugh: Yeah the pics don't have to be very sharp because they're only going to be turned to shit when they go to print for the paper. But at least people should point these things out so maybe he can realize what he did or something. I didn't try to teach anything I just brought it to his attention, nothing wrong with that. :dunno:

I did a lot of that for our paper... Ours is called "buzz around campus"

I never bothered trying to make them look fancy since I knew they were printed in B&W.

Here's the last one I did, big woop

Don't sweat it. I agree, for print or not, I should have used a higher Fstop to get more of their face in focus which is especially important for news print since the once is hits the paper is loses a lot of sharpness.

Werd, those look about right for what we do as well. I would love to make it different but they are literally mug shots with a quote. Next year I will be Editor in Chief and plan on doing something different with that back page.

HAHAH, same here. I'm actually the News Editor and wind up taking 90% of our pics cause our paid photographer is totally lost trying to use his D200. Waste of equipment on that guy.

Yeah once they hit the photo editor I could care less. I just like shooting it for the practice, which it looks like I need more of.
