    Ah.....the smells of a NHRA event.....lets review.
These days we are more than likely to run away from a strange cloud of gas. Not NHRA fans.....we run to them. That is, only to run away as soon as the nitro fumes take our vision and our breath away....
Then there is the sweet smell of VHT traction compound. Call me a redneck, but I'd like to try some of this on a biscuit...

Then there is the smell that gives you the feeling that you are at the state fair. The smell of food.....nothing like a good track burger to clean your system and wallet out.....

It's safe to say that track prep was great. Besides the nitro cars getting loose when the concrete ends (around 1000ft), there weren't many problems. Check out the reflection.....

    Some action shots...
Cory Mac blowing a head gasket....
    The Kalitta Celica...
John Force's cars have dominated so far this weekend....qualifying 1st, 2nd, and 3rd...

I snapped this pic of Bob Vandergrift Jr's car right after a loud boom. Take a look at the blower....pretty evident of what happened....
Cooling off the clutch disc's from a top fuel dragster....
    Larry Dixon and Scott Weis.....

some good captures, you might want to get creative with your crops and try to removes some "wall" in some of the images.

I was sitting pretty high, and was using my 70-300mm lens. Alot of the shots were taken around 70-100mm and cropped down, so there wouldn't be too much left if I cropped it more. I definately do that for shots closer to 200+mm though. :wavey:

Awesome. The last few races are always the best...........since teams tend to pull all of their tricks out for any last ditch efforts at the points race. Vegas and Pomona are definately going on the record books one way or another.

    You going to shoot both?

Yeah, I'll be shooting them, I don't have a Restricted Area pass for the next couple races though, so I'll prolly hafta sneak up to get the line pics. I have been to 5 races this year, but only have pics up from the 3 following.

Awesome. I'll check those out later this evening.

I love drag racing.......NHRA. IHRA, whatever. We go to Bristol every year, and will probably add Dinwiddie to the list now that the NHRA is back.

Here are some pics from Bristol this past year.....

mmm, the smell of VHT gets me going all over again.

I made it out to the local track here a couple weeks ago and had basically unrestricted access. Yes it's small and no we didn't have any top fuel/funny cars - just a lot of 10-13 second muscle cars, a couple mid 8 cars, a probe looking for 8.99, and a car that should've run mid 7s. I'd post my pictures but I don't want my server raped yet.

well that's at 53mm on the 28-75 Tamron
I'm basically standing with a knee against the retaining wall.

couple weeks before I was standing about 20' directly behind a couple of the 10 second cars.

did find out that I need ear plugs that are a little more comfortable to wear constantly for 8 hours.
