So far I'm loving this lens. The close shots really turned out, but the deer in the distance don't look right. Does anyone on here do a lot of wildlife photography? I'd like to pick your brain.

the deer shots just need more contrast. they blend in with the enviornment and threre was no directional lighting at all.

Yeah...those do look better. Did you do anything other than up the contrast? I took these in RAW, so I think I could get them to look right if I knew what the hell I was doing.

Increased contrast, burned some highlights like the antlers, and face, a lil of the coat.....on the fawn I decreased the blue in the image...

I'd shoot raw and do adjustments with your software before turning it into a jpg. Also, try your metering when outside in bright light. I always shoot in evaluative when outside and the sky is a variable. To add one or two more things into the mix, FEL, stopping down and maybe bracketing would help and possible a polarizer.

I want the 2.8 but until I start making more money with what I have it won't be happening any time soon.

Good shots and good luck with your new toy.

They were taken in the Badlands in North Dakota. I was visiting family up there.

Thanks for the tips. I get too damn excited when I see something worth taking a picture of that I forget to do any adjusting on the camera.

I have the non IS version of this lens. Pretty good deal...something like 650 used. I am going to use it when the bald eagles come to me area this winter.
