i wish i could shoot for money, means i would be able to get closer to the track lol

Mid Ohio is like 20 minutes from my house and i have been going to the ALMS race there for like 8 years or something

Indy had been coming to Mid Ohio for years but back when they split they stopped so ALMS had a whole weekend to themselves. now for the past 3 years Indy is back and ALMS has to share the weekend and its getting to be a pain in the ass. ALMS is getting barely any paddock space and Speed is getting none what so ever, they have to setup in grass parking areas. its bullshit, they need to split up the 2 major events into 2 seperate weekends.

    /end rant

Thats perfect thanks! If it's not too too much to ask could you also resize IMG_9362 to 1280 x 757 (it tops the first one :hsd:)? As a ferrari enthusiast these pictures are simply

its awesome, so awesome u might lose me as a 70-200 renter lol

although i do want to try out the 2.8 IS and see if its worth the extra money

being a complete amateur all i can tell you is find a good spot that isnt crowded and shoot, make sure u have alot of storage. i have 2 4 gig cfs and i filled and dumped them on my laptop each day. start at like 160 shutter speed and move down to 125 or 80.

the person you should be asking for advice is vwpilot or maybe hightachpres.

having good glass helps too, although i took this

    with a d40 and a 55-200 4-5.6

i will admit the above pic is mainly 99% luck 1% skill

AI servo is the AF mode, not sure what camera u have but on my 30d i have One Shot, AI Focus and AI servo

basically AI Servo is what you would use for taking pics of fast moving subjects

none, sorry. must have missed it on practice day and i woke up late for the race on sunday so i fail

Good job working from the spectator areas and getting good shots. Many people think that they need credentials to get good shots, but its not true. Many tracks offer very good options from public areas and you just need to make it work. Nice way to do that.

Here are a few from last weekend of mine and my assistants. A little prop for my assistant, this was only her sixth race shooting ever. She has come a very long way very quickly with lots of practice. That is all you need, just get out there and do it and push yourself.

nice, lol i was thinking about just getting a vest and putting some numbers on it and jumping the fence. although the "S"s and carousel offer good spectator spots for pics, also going into the first turn under the infield bridge.

loving the pic of the flying lizard porsche from behind, heading into the carousel? love to do some shots like that but the 70-200 just doesnt have the reach, was thinking of renting a 100-400mm IS 4.5-5.6L USM once and see how well it does.

btw were u there for the whole weekend or just for ALMS?

Actually the vests that weekend were kind of just a formality. You probably saw some without them, especially for the IRL race since the ALMS was gone at that point and the vests were their thing, not the tracks. The workers were mainly looking for credentials and not worried about vests.

Thanks, exif is in the photo, that was with a 500 at 1/40 I think. However, that is the entrance to Thunder Valley, not the Carousel.

I was there all weekend. I did not shoot any IRL as no one pays me to do so. I stayed Sunday to shoot World Challenge. I did go out and watch some of the IRL race, if you were down by the walkover Honda bridge, I may have been one inside the fences that would piss you off. Carrie and I werent shooting, but it was crowded so we used out credentials to just go inside the fence and watch. We hung out with another photographer we knew and played around shooting the cars with our phones just for a laugh. So if you saw us, we were the ones that were pissing off all the other photographers by being inside the fence as "fans" and using out cell phones. LOL :big grin:
