I finally got back into the gym today after a long break after feeling a pain in my left nut while squatting (despite what stance I used) 225.

The break was roughly 2 to 3 weeks long. Went back into the gym yesterday afternoon for about 45 minutes, did squats up to 225x5, then just did a bunch of random stuff around the gym. Felt perfectly fine.

I'm thinking maybe I should go on a routine that didn't have me squatting 3x a week, good mornings, deadlifts, etc in nearly every workout (I was on Bill Starr's routine). The thing is though, I liked the volume and intensity of those workouts and I was progressing enough to take joy in it.

I've been considering continuing the routine, but taking an extra day's break between each workout. Meaning, Monday, Thursday, Sunday... Wed, Sat, Tues... etc.

I've already tried taking an extra day off at the end of the week, hell, even two extra days off... and apparently it wasn't quite enough.

Could anybody offer me some input?

Talked to the nurse at my doctor office and she said it was probably just that I lifted wrong or progressed too fast since it wasn't still hurting and that I should have lifted a few days later and seen if the pain was still there. That and caress my boys to see if there were lumps. IF there was pain, come in and see them.

Waited much longer than they wanted, everything seems fine now though.

could still be a weak area in your abdominal wall where intestine pushes against/through during work-outs. dont ever take advice from nurses, i'd get an opinion from a urologist first

you dont need to be scared, but if you're having nut pain, i dont understand why you wouldnt have gone straight to a "nut specialist" aka urologist instead of asking some nurse about it. she doesnt have the training or knowledge to give you any kind of informed answer, and it was irresponsible for her to even have done so.

testicular pain can be from a lot of things, including hernia, plumbing issues with a whole array of pipes down there, cancers or other abnormal growths, low-grade infection, or even referred pain from a pinched or irritated nerve somewhere in your lower abdomen, most commonly from your lower back. it could also be nothing.

testicular pain is one of those situations where "see a fucking dr, dont ask ot" applies.

I'm a nurse and I think I am more knowledgable than any general family practice doctor I know, so we're not idiots. But with stuff like "nut pain", my advice would have been to see a urologist, not "it'll be okay, you prolly just lifted too much too fast."

Guess it depends on the nurse. I guess the fact that I have testicles and realize that they aren't supposed to hurt while squatting helps a little too. :mamoru:

i dont think nurses are idiots; hell, i'm just a tech in an er studying to go to med school. but for questions like this, a nurse def does not have adequate training and knowledge to know whats up, seeing as how a urologist will have studied for a minimum of 8-9 years before starting to practice.

I got an appt with a urologist Friday morning. Luckily before I move into my dorm. I hope I don't have to have surgery or anything.

He's not just going to grab my nuts, make me cough, and pay a huge bill is he?

my guess is a hernia. i think i just got another one myself. it hurts a little down there, not really a pain but something annoying. and it goes away when I lay down. i've had a hernia before on the other side, so i guess i just had naturally weak stomach lining and now its time to patch up the left side. hopefully this is my last one if htat is what it really is, im seeing my doc next week...

Well yeah I'm assuming its a hernia, so I've been laying low for awhile and out of the gym. I just hope he tells me I'm being a pussy and to continue lifting. I hate being out of the gym. I was aiming for a 405 squat by the time I entered college. Damn did I fuck that up.

I had the same issue. Pain in my nut from squats.

I went to the doctor to see if it was a hernia, and it wasnt.

If it hurts when you poop or when you cough, see a doctor immediately.

Doctor said I had a weak groin compared to my back and legs, and that i should lower the weight to strengthen it up before progressing. :hs:

the thing with hernias is, sometimes they dont hurt at all. my first one, i didnt feel anything. i lived with it for a long ass time too until i finally got it fixed, the doc said there was no rush. i even lifted while i had it but it wasn't that big or serious of a hernia. however, after getting the surgery done, i could barely move for a week and didnt even think about squatting for another month.

It doesn't hurt when I poop or cough or sneeze. I basically feel fine. I'm mostly just trying to take all the precautions now, although I have been doing lots of GPP-type work for my job and lots of semi-heavy lifting lately (100-150 lb objects in awkward dimensions/shapes).

I sure hope I don't have to get surgery, missing a week or two of classes would fucking kill me. That would be a bad fucking start to my freshman year. :hsd:

you wouldnt miss classes. it'd just make it hard to get around if you were like me. everyone takes it differently, i had trouble standing up straight for a 2-3 days and just general pain and discomfort for a few weeks after. some people feel fine after a day or two. but even with my pain and discomfort i didnt miss a single class, i had to have my brother drop me off like i was in jr high though lol, couldnt drive for a week.
