(This was taken at like 2am with a 5s shutter speed, the clouds were  I was riding with a friend and he refused to stop the car so I could set up my tripod and take a few shots :squint:)

Grainy but I thought it was kind of cool. I was drunk, and I decided to see what it would look like if I taped a sparkler to an arrow and shot it across the frame (it was like 2am)

Sorry I posted so many, I kind of got carried away. . .I'm going to submit a few into a photo contest, but I'm having trouble deciding how many/which ones to submit. I was hoping I could get some opinions and/or advice :)

I got a D40x about a month ago and used it to take most of these. The pics of the girl were taken with my Nikkormat FT2, though.

    Comments are appreciated :wavey:

the one with the tree is the only one I liked, but I don't think it's good enough to win anything. Nothing exciting about it.

yarly. balanced it on the window and panned the best I could. I took 4-5 before I got this one, but I knew I wouldn't get anything sharper so I stopped after I took it.

Its a student photography contest, I wasn't expecting the competition to be incredibly fierce.

Rather than just telling me not to enter, how about some constructive criticism?

And the girl in the white dress was nothing to do with a wedding, she just happened to be wearing a white dress when we were downtown taking a few photos.

And, for the record, I admit that the photo I took out the window of the jeep was complete luck. It was a miracle that it came out as clear as it did.

The next to last pic is the best IMO. Maybe the second girl pic. You should take more shots with a horizontal horizon heh. Anyway good luck. =)

The last one has a certain abstract aesthetic to it, but it's still pretty boring. Overall I would suggest selling your camera and taking up knitting.

I like the first one, crop out the street light and truck though.

    1. The lightning bolt is centered in the frame. There is WAY too much distracting stuff in the foreground, especially the truck and the mailbox. And level the damn horizon.
    2. You blew the focus on the girl and focused on the fence. I'm guessing the fence is not the subject of the photo. This may have been the best of the bunch otherwise.
    3. Alright, but it's way too pelfed.
    4. Ughhhh, if you wanted to take a picture of the bench with cool writing on it, you should have done that, without having a blurry half of a head in the corner of the frame.
    5. Boring.
    6. I would have deleted this on the camera.
    7. See #6. Completely blew the exposure.
    8. See #6. By the way this is bad for your sensor.
    9. Somewhat nice colors, but the composition is pretty bad.
    10. The sparkler is cool, but all the other stuff in the frame is distracting. And holy noise Batman.

this one with the stars, street lights and dead pixels cloned out would be good
    [IMG]

or a cropped version of your first one would be fine
    [IMG]

There is NOTHING wrong with a centered photo. Not all images have to follow the rule of thirds. However, there is a lot of crap that is distracting in that photo and would have been better if they could have been moved...but considering the circumstances, it isn't that bad.
