I have been meaning to go take some night shots for a few weeks, so I decided to go tonight. I was gonna go with a friend, but he has to work early, so I just chilled there till 1:15am or so and headed out... Yea, I know. I forgot to turn on Noise Reduction for a bunch of em. Oh well. Lesson learned. :) Anyway, hope you guys like em. Mostly just stuff I saw and thought would make a good picture... :)

Gawd, I'd be all over the 6th one down. Talk about a kick ass location for car/bike shoots.

Do you still have a warranty on your camera? There a dead pixel on the left side that throws some of your shots off a little.

It's not a dead pixel. It's just noise from the longer exposures since I didn't have noise reduction off. You will notice some don't have it, which is because I didn't remember till halfway through last night to turn NR on... lol Thanks for letting me know though... :wavey:
If you go from the bottom up, thats the order I took them in. After the first power plant pic is when I remembered and the rest don't have it (with exception to the second one in line, which was actually the very first pic I took)... ;)

    It's not noise, trust me.

It's a bright blue/turqouise dot in the same position in every pic. If it were noise the pattern would vary from picture to picture.

It's not in every pic. But dead pixel or not, it doesn't matter because it is NOT in shorter exposure shots, and as soon as I turn on noise reduction in longer ones, it goes away. That is a pretty good indication it is noise, even if it is in the same spot. There are several of them, all of which go away when NR is urned on... ;)

Surely noise has some sort of colour/shade where as a dead pixel would be...that. Right?

/me looks around for people with knowledge

DEAD PIXELS ONLY SHOW UP IN LONG EXPOSURE SHOTS....WHEN IT'S NOT ON BLACK...trust me I know this, it's why I do not have a D70 at the moment ;)

actually a dead pixel will show up under any condition wether short or long exposure and it will always be black. a stuck pixel (is what you see in the pics) will be stuck in the red, blue, or green channel and can be repaired although kind of pricy.

what you see in the pics is in fact a stuck pixel, sometimes they work, most times they dont. That explains why they are there in that same exact spot most of the time but sometimes not. There may be a varying voltage across the sensor when you turn NR on that causes the pixel to work in that mode, but im not sure of the camera specifics.

Just curious. How long did you leave your shutter open for the below pic? Did you use a filter of any kind?

Yeah that is a dead pixel, when you turn on noise reduction the camera is thinking it is noise and removing it.
