    1. Some of the gear I thought I would need I don’t.
    2. Shooting weddings is more physically demanding that I thought.
    3. I’m a gear whore.
    4. I still have a lot to learn.
    5. Did I mention I’m a gear whore?

I’m also more successful than I thought I would be. I can’t believe how my business has started to take off. I’m still not ready to quit my day job but I wish I had done this years ago. I’m also enjoying the hell out of owning/running my own business. It’s very satisfying but it’s also demanding. No more playing golf every weekend.

I should probably sell off some of the useless things I bought but I figured that someday I might use them again. Some of the useless things I own are:

Canon i9900 printer. I decided that I don’t like making my own prints.
15 boxes of 11”x14” photo paper. Cheap stuff that I got at a discount. Hate it.
Tons of ink from a secondary supplier. Useless now.
Graduated ND filter. I use these all the time in video work but have yet to use my 77mm grad filter for photography.
Flash bracket. Actually, make that two flash brackets.
Off camera flash cord. I do have a 6’ one that I use but I don’t use the shorter one.
Reflector holder. I don’t use it. Ever.
Dual grip head to hold my boom. An oarlock in a C-stand works better.
“Spring Cleaning” for macs. Haven’t needed it or used it. Yet.
Fourth Photogenics strobe. Picked it up cheap. Haven’t used it.
Fourth Sunpack 383. Used it once when I needed four speedlights.
Flash ring. Used it once but I do love the light.
“Look Book” posing cheat sheet. Rarely pull it out of the bag.
Extra 4-GB cards. How many can one have? I’ve yet to come close to running out.
Portable CF to HD backup w/screen. Never used it.
Two rocket blowers. One is enough but I had misplaced my first one, then found it later.
45mm TS-E lens. Jury is still out on this. I like it but it has limited use for my style. It may get traded for a 35L.
Radio headsets. Used them once. My weddings aren’t that big.
PW bracket to mount PW to camera and sync port. Used it once.
2-Industrial flat magnets. I was going to build an undercar camera rig to go along with my suction cup rig. Have yet to do so.
Suction cup rig. Built it. Used it twice.

I'm working on the same. I'm a long way off from doing it though. A year at least.

I wouldn't say that I'd ever shoot weddings for free. But I do enjoy the thrill and challenge.

I had been wanting an Epson 3800 or some similar widecarriage, but then I realized Costco does a better job, cheaper and way less hassle, when you factor in all the ink management.

at least as much as having 13 unused speedlights :dunno:

Might not help the business, but it sure is fun. This might be my favorite flickr feature:
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/languidwiggle/map/

Plus when you get prints made, you can have the coordinates printed on the back :bigthumb: I know there are a ton of photos from my grandparents that I've love to visit the places they were taken, but have no idea where to even begin finding the locations. Perhaps wedding people might like that?

I just ordered a B+W .09 ND filter. Three stops should be enough.
