some cool lighting things for DIYers

    that neon floor lamp would make you go blind though
    you'd need a shade for it or something

    maybe I could find less brighter lamps :dunno: I think it wouldn't have the same effect if it had something covering it

    it's too bad you can't use dimmers with fluorescent lighting :sad2:

    the ikea lamp shades are pretty cheap even if you get rid of all the lamp hardware :dunno:

    but the buzzing from those things would drive me insane :o

    if the neon floor lamp got knocked over, which is likely in a small cramped dorm room, the ballasts holding the lights would shatter in a billion foot-mutilating pieces. bad idea.

    first one would look great with some sort of diffusing or shading device...

    i did this very quickly in cad (hence the chopiness and lack of actual lighting/shadow/refraction)... but you get the idea:

    black, translucent plexiglass rings (which would look 10x better with an actual light source to refract):

    really wouldnt be hard to do at all. we cut plexi all the time on the laser cutter. i might actually try something like this when I have the time (but obviously alot nicer) :coold:

    first thing i thought was iso purifier... would prob look a lot better with some light going on though.
