Just wondering what people think of the pontiac solstice which is soppoused to come out soon? I'm really tempted to get one..... seems really inexpesnive for what it is (could use more power...and maybe a bigger trunk but..)

    any thoughts?

It will definitely fill a niche in the market. It's a glorified Miata (which I don't like), but for some reason I kinda dig it.

I agree, pretty gutless on the power though.

I'd love to buy one and slap the blower on it that's on the Cobalt SS and Ion Redline. Take it up to 240ish horses, easily. And with only about 2500lbs, that thing would get up and go.

The aftermarket on that thing will be huge, just like the miata.

I think this car is going to be a big seller. I think the Saturn Sky (same platform) will be even bigger. Too bad both cars are convertibles. If they could make a RWD coupe using the same platform, I'd be very tempted to buy one.

That's not a bad looking car, especially the drop top model.

I agree with you on the Saturn Sky. As a Pontiac guy, it pains me to say it, but I'd definitely take the Sky over the Solstice :eek4:.

Wouldn't surprise me if they did a hard-top version. The car is built on the same platform as the Vauxhall VX220 and the Opel Speedster, and they've got hard-top sport versions of both of those. Give it a year or two after they come out and have proven their profitability (and I guarantee you that they will be one of the few recent cars from GM that really will probably sell at the price it's supposed to). This is always the case with new cars... part of the reason why, for example, the new G6 came out in sedan form first, and the GTP and convertible and coupe will be added later.

The Solstice and Sky are NOT based on the Speedster/VX220 (which are both a reskinned Lotus Elise), they are completely different cars.

I really liked the solstice at first... the most recent auto show pics of the "production" version looked a bit bland to me though.

    Still, the price is right.

I wanted a Solstice, even went in to order one, but Pontiac sucks and wants a 2500-4500 "Market Adjustment". I told them to fuck off and went to the Saturn dealer down the street and ordered a Sky.
