Looks like Arona was out. Why else would his hands be just chilling somewhere way over his head.

Actually, it seems like they were kicking randomly.

I assume that he was trying to get his legs in between him and Thierry in a butt-scoot position, but he was too out of it to react properly and quickly enough. It was a legit stoppage.

I'm assuming that they'll feed him a more mediocre fighter next to build him up more rather than potentially upsetting every good LHW he faces.

Aimlessly flailing your legs != kicking at your opponent.

    :ugh:

If there was one thing that impressed me in that fight against Arona, it wasn't his striking but his takedown defense. If you saw how perfect that sprawl was, how he transitioned to the single leg defense spot on and then got underhooks in when Arona transitioned to the double leg, you saw that he knew what the fuck he was doing.

I do agree with that we'll have to see him go the distance and see how his newaza is when he does hit the ground. I saw the fight he lost on youtube and he showed standup skills imo and slipped past punches like he was a boxer rather than some judokai, he did get caught in the end though but that was like his 3rd fight or so and seems to have improved since then. But for now, he just KO'd two of the best fighters in the world, how can you not jump on the bandwagon? Wanderlei Silva couldn't even knock out Arona after fighting him two times and was taken down numerous times and he was considered top 3 for the longest time (prior the Henderson/Crocop fight).

I'm not saying Soko is #1 or anything but I believe he has proven himself when everything was against him both times in the Pride ring. Can you even imagine the pressure that was on him when both times he was expected to lose but prevailed instead?

Watch the fight, he was out from the uppercut that floored him and then another right landed over arona's eye. He was just flailing his arms and legs out of instinct.

Not sure what you mean. Most people thought he got a fluke win against lil nog and he had to prove himself against another top 10 fighter.

    What?

Are you talking about after he beat Arona or prior to that?

Yeah and before that, everyone (including me) thought he was just some can to feed to Noguiera, so when Noguiera got KO'd. He had to prove that was no fluke by beating another top fighter that was considered one of the top light heavyweights in the world.

At first I thought his victory over Lil Nog was just a fluke victory, but with this win he really proves himself, and tells the world 'I am Soko, fear me or else' and I sooo dig that about him. This guy is hands down the #1 striker in Pride today.

LOL, it was funny, after that fight he had that 'Bring on Shogun and Wanderlei, bring me more Brazilians and I will destroy them' look on his face. Classic!

Beforehand... like his previous fight, no one expected him to win. No one expecting you to win = no pressure.

Rarely do you ever see someone bigger than Arona. The guy has some deadly kicks. Those leg kicks prevented any kind of take down attempt from Arona. From then on he was toast. Big surprise as I thought Arona was going to walk all over this "newbie"
