I just got a Motorola SLVR L6, and to my delight (not really) I discovered that while it has a USB port on it, it still requires special software to transfer files. Assholes.

Does anybody know of free software that works with the SLVR? I'd rather not let Motorola soak me for $30 for proprietary software and a special cable that does nothing my generic USB cables don't do, but if that's the only thing that will work...

...I'd still rather not have to pay for it, though.

Motorola PhoneTools is worth it. I loved it when I had my RAZR.

Does that mean there aren't any free alternatives? I'm not determined to avoid paying, but I'd like to try any free apps that might exist first, to see if they can meet my needs (i.e. download photos, upload mp3 ringtones, sync phonebook).

If I remember right motomodders.net has a software download area that may have some tools to do what you need.
