soft modded my 9500 NP --> 9700 using the tutorial in this link : http://www.maxdownloads.com/~ian/wizzard/

however, now i am getting a SHITLOAD OF FUCKING ARTIFACTS and a lot of weird colored band thingies. is there anything i can do to get rid of these because i actually have increased FPS by like 20% on all 3dMark 03 tests.

Try lowering the clock speed see if that works.. If it doesn't Go with the above suggesions.

The softmod worked correctly about 20% of the time, if that. You should have done more research there sonny.

    it's not been flashed with non-standard BIOS...i didn't overclock.

it's been soft modded, its just a driver change that makes use of the inactivated pixel rendering pipelines on the card.as far as i know, it doesn't do anything as far as OCing is concerned...i think

i'm quite sure it works a little more than 20% of the time...whatever the case, this 9500 can't handle the transformation. i think i'll "exchange it due to hardware defects" see if i can get one that works. :x:

If you don't know exactly what you are doing, why are you trying to do it?

I bought one trying to see if I can get a 9700 for real cheap (it was 170 or so at the time) and I had the same problem. I took it back and bought a 9700 for 215 or so and have been happy since.

Just think when you take it back how many other people have taken the one you're fixing to buy back ;)

    1) step by step tutorials
    2) simple results, either pass/fail
    3) 9500 128mb + light tweaking = 9700

    it's called experimentation

I was able to softmod my 9500np into a 9700pro & 9800pro without artifacts. Not a big inprovement since I only have 4x AGP on my board.

Erm, you should still see doubled 3dmark03 scores, even in the texture tests. The bus sits idle after it transfers the textures over to the boards 128 mb of memory, and is only accessed once the memory can't handle anymore. Most games and even benchmarks today don't even utilise all of the memory on a 128 mb card.
