I noticed that my chili that has 46g of protien per can also has 47% of my DV for sodium. Are there any negative effects for taking in alot of sodium? I like alot of asian foods too, so i might need to counter this with something.

I always feel tired and out of it after I eat a lot of sodium. Wendy's Chili is good but damn it makes me feel out of it till I drink two gallons of water.

My blood test even came back with higher than normal sodium levels... :hsugh:

Yes there are negatives to having to much sodium...no bueno for blood pressure...will increase blood pressure = make heart work harder. If you lift alot.. especially bad b/c if you have high BP to begin with..then when you lift heavy weights this causes a large increase in your pressure, especially in the aorta...not good especially if you have risk factors for heart disease such as stroke.

sorry if message in unclear. kinda in a hurry

I researched this today, actually. The bottom line is if you don't have pre-existing conditions such as hypertension (this is aggravated by sodium in most people), you don't really need to worry about your sodium intake--it is water soluble anyway, so it will just be flushed out in your urine (make sure you drink enough water to compensate for increased sodium levels).

However, you don't need to go crazy with the sodium. Even if you drink adequate amounts of water, all that sodium still has to be filtered by your kidneys, and if you continue to consume large amounts of sodium per day, everyday, for years and years, you may get yourself into trouble if your kidneys start to shut down.

someone posted a study a few days ago (check page 2 of this forum) about this. I think it said that if you dont have any pre-existing conditions, high sodium intake only raises BP by a few mm Hg...pretty much what reddrob said

    It's all relative.
How does your piss look, neon yellow?
Just drink a lot of water until your urine is merely tinted water.
Find your balance for a normal day (should be around 2 gallons).
Drink more when you eat higher sodium food stuffs.
Go to walmart and use the blood pressure cuff.
Best to just avoid high sodium foods in general.

see that's the thing...most people don't know if they have preexisting condition...maybe you have a weak spot in your aorta (sorry can't remember technical term)...have a high sodium diet..kidneys put the excess sodium in the blood...law of osmotic...lift heavy...bye bye aorta. This is pretty exagerated but I just listened to a cardiologist for an hour and half on this very subject today.
