YUCCA VALLEY - A homeowner shot to death a 17-year-old boy during a Halloween night burglary and two other teens were arrested, authorities said.

Michael Bryce Patton, 17, was shot in the chest and his 16-year-old friend was grazed on the arm after they forced open the door of the home shortly before 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, San Bernardino County Sheriff's spokeswoman Arden Wiltshire said Thursday.

The 32-year-old homeowner heard knocking at the front door. He was not expecting anyone, did not answer the door and armed himself because the house had been burglarized several times in the past two months, authorities said.

He fired several shots as the door was forced.

The boys fled but Patton collapsed in the driveway and was pronounced dead. His friend, whose identity was not released, took off in a car driven by 18-year-old Duncan Nicholson, Wiltshire said.

The two later returned to the home with Patton's father, Wiltshire said.

Authorities believe the three boys committed the earlier burglaries at the home. Nicholson and the other teen were arrested for investigation of murder because their actions led to a death and were held without bail, Wiltshire said.

She did not know whether they have retained attorneys.

    The homeowner was not held.

``It looks like it was self-defense,'' Wiltshire said.

Suprised he wasnt charged for that in Commifornia, probably wont bode well for the civil suit though.

 I was expecting some cali crap. maybe by "as the door was forced" means they fully got the door open and were on the way in.

buying a gun is just step one if your house has been burglarized several times in the last 2 months.
