So basically in the next couple of months I'll be getting into the amature range for competeing in some PL events (according to some of those raw lifts / elite lifting sites). I would really love to compete even if just to say I tried as well as having a goal to shoot for.

Could someone point me towards where I can get some info on getting involved?

Thanks. Maine since you are a competing power lifter, how common is the use of gear / equipment with other people in the competition. Seems like all this shit is allowed, but I've only ever used chalk, never belt / straps / shirt / whatever. Should I start educating myself on that stuff? Is it essential?

Some meets/feds will have an open and raw class at every meet so that you can compete against geared or non geared lifters.

But you can always enter the open class without gear, you'll just be competing against geared lifters. I would at least pick up a belt. To do geared training you really need to be around people who know what they're doing. At least in my experience.

Yeah it definately seems like that. I would have no idea what to do with a benching shirt or any of that other stuff. I guess I should look into a belt.

Are there any places that I could find a decent one locally? or should I order one online?

    order online

www.elitefts.com has the best, but you can find others for cheaper

as for gear... it depends on what federation. you don't stand a chance at placing if you lift raw at a gear'd meet.
