I am currently in the Army national guard and I am commissioning in December. I am going to SOBC in May and I was wondering if anyone knew if I can bring my wife and kid with me? I will be deploying shortly after and would like to spend a little more time with them.

Also is it true that I will have most nights and weekends off? similar to college? I am used to training like I had in Basic where you whole life is controlled.

signal OBC? if so, I am not sure as Ft Gordon is about as backwards as they come. You should be assigned to B Company 442 Sig Bn, call and ask their staff duty. I am out of town and am assigned to C Co 442 Sig Bn. You can call their orderly room and ask for the number of the other company. 706-791-5242 (again this is the orderly room for ILE, SCCC, and functional areas)

From my experience back in 2006 and Ft Leonard Wood Engineer OBC several classmates brought their wives and children and lived in on-post housing. See if you can get it in your orders

I had most of my nights and weekends off except for field time or special training evolutions.

Yah, Signal OBC. Any idea on what the housing situation is for OBC at Gordon? are the officers in the training in barracks or off post?

the 2LTs live in the barracks called 'Ring Hall'
if you are allowed family that would be different. Give that number a call and find out for sure

Is "ring hall" barracks? Or is it army lodging (like Fort Bennings?).

Usually, you can bring your family to OBC. At my OBC I had my wife with me in our army lodging hotel room. Paid an extra 5 dollars a day.

Mine had a kitchenette. Made came daily. You could get away with the 5 dollar extra fee, if you just tipped your maid appropriately. She's the one that would report.

Went through SOBC in 2007. Brought my wife and lived off post in an apartment. A couple 2LTs in my class did the same with their families. No big deal. SOBC is basically like college.

Depends on the location. The majority of my buddies lived in Hotel rooms on and off post. No one ever had an issue with another person staying in the same room for an extended period of time.

Post housing. Probably had to get the company commander in charge of the school to sign a waiver, but should be pretty easy unless housing has a crazy waiting list.

OK soo I had a couple more questions for you all, mainly anyone who is guard or reserves with Family. Did you receive BAH while at BOLC? were you on TDY?

I just spoke with the 442nd down at Gordon and I was told that I would be in a hotel if I am there on TDY and that as long as I covered the difference my wife could come with me. The issue I have is that he also said that I would not be receiving BAH while I am at BOLC?? Sounds off to me I have a wife and kid I thought that meant I would receive BAH?

Yeah, while on active duty, you should be receiving BAH and TDY while at OBC. of course this will not be the full tdy. Gordon contracts with the local hotels and takes care of that for you. The extra cost for the wife should be about $5. PM Kazimer and he can walk across the hall and confirm for you.

got my SOBC dates. Reporting to Ft. Gordon on August 19. Going to be cadre at the Leaders Training Course (LTC) at Ft. Knox sometime before that, hopefully have enough time coming off LTC to move my crap around without much hassle.
