i must say, i was very anti-gun up until then and now i'm hooked and will be making my first purchase soon (after i complete a safty course and get my PAL)

My brother and a good friend of ours went out to the sandpits to shoot some targets. My bro brought his SKS and our buddy brought his SKS and his 12ga shotgun. i must admit, as pussy as this sounds, the first round scared the shit out of me, and it wasnt even me that fired it. my bro wanted me to see first hand the damge a gun can do before handing it to me. (sort of a saftey thing i guess) it wasnt loud (hearing protection) but standing that close to a rifle firing i never realised the sort of punch you feel in the chest before.

the SKS has a fair amount of kick (well, for a newb like me it did, having only experiance with high power pellet guns in the past) we were shooting 7.62x39mm rounds at about 100yards and i managed to hit the target pretty well for a beginner. i only took 3 shots with the shotgun. it had a little more boot than the SKS but, i loved it. he had a rubber peice fitted to the butt to supress recoil. i cant imagine what that fucker feels like with a brass or wood butt. i loved every bit of it. i fired 60 rounds total over the course of the day then we went and cleaned the guns out. (the cheap SKS ammo we used had corrosive paint on the jackets)they showed me how to clean them.

not only am i now pro gun, i think i've found a new hobby! :wavey:

too bad we can't get all anti gunners to go out for a funshoot. maybe if most of them weren't scared the gun was gonna jump out of the bag and shoot them in the face. good job though.

If you do get your wife out, bring along a .22. Something with some kick will/may just scare her.

My woman hated guns when I met her. She claimed that she'd never allow a gun in her house and :blah:. I just brought one home one day and I talked her into letting me keep it in no time. Then I brought home another one. Then another one. She bought me my last one :big grin:.

Welcome. And the kind of shooting you did is the most fun there is. Just shooting to punch holes in paper is the most fun i have shooting guns. Sure you can hunt, but that may not be your thing, but if you can put 5 shots into an inch at 100yds that's a personal challenge. It takes more than some maniac pulling the trigger as fast as he can to do that, though being that maianc pulling the trigger fast is just as fun. Have fun and welcome to the sport. What kind of paperwork is required to purchase a firearm in canada?

I think alot of anti-gun people just haven't tried them before and demonize them. If they never used kitchen knives it would be the same thing. Omg knife over 4" long, assault knife!!!

Anyway glad you had fun, be sure to get others shooting too! :big grin:

i havent looked into it yet, but as far as what my brother has told me, you need to take a saftey corurse and both a written and practical test to allow aquisition and posession of non restricted weapons, ammo, rifles and shotguns. in order to buy a handgun though, you need a second harder test for restricted licence. then you need a permit to transport. (handguns only)
    my bro has all three
it's strict, but it's very good

i think i may go with an SKS. just to start.
it's only $200 thats about the cheapest rifle you can buy around here that isnt used an abused.

i'll move on to a handgun after i have more experiance with firearms overall

i was actually curious if anyone else knew of corrosive paint on shells. usually when ammo is said to be corrosive it means that either the powder or primer used leaves a corrosive residue. i had never heard of corrosive paint on shells. i know a lot of the surplus stuff has lacquer on it, but it's not corrosive.
