Back before you started lifting. I know a lot of guys here started pretty late. What were your reasons for not lifting? Didn't care? Didn't think you could do it? I'm curious.

I used to not lift because I thought that a) I'd stay little forever and make no progress and b) that it would look stupid because I'd stay little forever. Better to make no effort an not improve than to make effort and not improve.

Interesting how your perspective changes, isn't it?

just didnt cuz i had other things going on...didnt think about it nor consider it

it's kind of a stupid question...if you get into a hobby in 2 years, and someone says to you, "why werent you doing this 5 years ago.." you'll say, "i just wasnt..?"

mainly school, wanted to wait til i was 18 because people told me that was a good age to start training and whatnot, didnt care about my appearance until 18 as well, then i stepped up and told myself i look like a sac of shit so i wanted to make a change.

and now that i have no job and much time, i put effort into it and pay attention to the gym.

haha yeah i can see that.. but this is a little different in that, say someone fat losing weight. they've been fat for most of their lives (probably), been made fun of, and learned to be uncomfortable with it -- probably a while before they started lifting.

i'm going from skinny -> bulking, and i didn't care about bulking when i was little, but being skinny started to bother me several years before i actually hit the gym

I was fat and sucked at sports and the like.

I found my calling in football and lacrosse which sparked me to start seriously training.

I used to be really short and the doc told me it would stunt my growth and I listened to him. I'm not saying that it will stunt growth, but I was too fearful it would, so I waited. I don't really regret it. I could be stronger and bigger, but oh well, I could be a lot of things.

I didn't lift because I was told it would stunt my growth, at 16 I got tired of my gyno looking bad and thought making my chest bigger would make it less noticeable, and got hooked on working out.

Same thing for me, only I'm just starting to come out of my shell :hs:

I didn't care until I got a girlfriend, and a lot of guys would try and hit on her, so I wanted to be able to put them in their place...therefore I started lifting.

in order of priorities: girls, tv, sega, beer, weed. these were ultimately the reasons why i stopped being active in sports and nutrition. these were also the reasons why i said fuck it and cleaned up this year.

I was always a skinny dude. In junior high all the other guys could already lift more than me and nobody was interested in helping me improve. In my teens I tried to lift but still had no help and no idea that eating = gaining weight. By the time I got a little older I had developed that "I do martial arts and it's about technique not power so I don't need to lift" syndrome.

Basicly lots of excuses and feeling bad about being a skinny fuck.

I have been lifting weights on and off since I was 15. For whatever reason I can't stick with it for more than a year or so.

Been lifting on and off since I was probably 13 years old. My dad had bought a set of concrete weights for my oldest brother but he never used 'em.
Wasn't as consistent only because I let life get in the way.

I never bothered until I was 18 and then I just messed around with some machines (curls, pec dec and chest press...). Then in the military I was more concerned with having a high physical fitness score rather than being strong or big (4 years wasted). Finally, I was married for 4 years and didn't lift during that time either due to work, school, kids, and married life. Now that I am single and finished with school I can devote plenty of time to lifting (when I don't have my kids).
