i gotta admit im pretty excited about this. the first series was a litttle before my time but i grew up watching generations with my father and all the other shows after that. never really got into the priginal show but always ike the movies based around the original. this seems like something that could shake things up in the star trek scene, because it seems like a dying concept :hs:. also, have jjabrams involved is

I am, if only because they're taking things in a new direction and the TNG movies were getting progressively worse. Nemesis was almost unwatchable.

I'm not sure how well a TOS "reboot" will work, though. Based on everything I've seen so far, this looks like one of those movies that people will either really love or absolutely despise, no in-between. I hope it's not too 90210ish, "Teen Star Trek".

I'm in the despise group just from watching the preview. I'll still go but I expect to find a comedy (near parody) rather than a serious sci-fi show.

Anything to get the nightmares of Nemesis out of my mind.

Seriously though I'm pretty stoked about the new flick. Hopefully it'll give the franchise a proper reboot just like Batman Begins did.

We'll see how well Sylar plays a young Spock. I have my serious reservations, but as long as the overtly sexual innuendos and acting stays ala Shatner, I'm in.

I don't know how the story is going to play out, but I don't like the enterprise being built while they're at the academy. It was already in service for a lot of years when Kirk took over.

true, but we don't know how long kirk was in starfleet before he made captain.

True, but I wouldn't imagine he went from cadet directly to captain. You'd expect him to spend at least some time as an ensign, lieutenant, and commander first.

right, which is why it makes sense that the enterprise could have been built while he was at the academy; all those years it was in service before kirk became its captain correspond to the years in which kirk was in starfleet before he was promoted to captain.

Captain April took Enterprise on it first 5 year mission and then Pike took commande for 5 years so it supposedly took Kirk 10 years to make Captain.

The fuck is wrong with you people? Nemesis was a great movie. I'm actually not sure if I'll go see this one, because I never much liked TOS -- my favorite TOS movies were 3, 4, and 6, and this doesn't strike me as being anything like them.

was Enterprise his first command? If so, that's surprising considering the Constitution-class was supposed to be the pride of the fleet and you'd think veteran captains would be given those ships.

Having Chekov in the movie is a potential continuity error, because he wasn't on the ship until the 2nd season, which is Kirk's 3rd year as captain.

that's my exact fear about it - that it will turn out to be some teen flick and not be serious, thus disappointing the millions of fans out there....

The bridge looks like one big translucent iPod and I'd be surprised if any of the crew is older than 21.

i'm stoked. and i'm not goin with the stuck-in must be true to the original attitude. those days are gone, get over it. i'm gonna enjoy this for what it is, a sci-fi movie that happens to look like star trek.

Except it doesn't look like Star Trek. It looks like an apple commercial on the WB.
