Saw this posted on ARFCom. No actual news link yet.

Nothing like a cop leaving his truck UNLOCKED and a nice new H&K UMP full auto, $3500.00 radio, and 20 rounds get stolen. Yes guys, the MONROE PD has "lost" [no it's been stolen from a UNlocked vehicle] one of its swat guns that the officer took home and left unsecured in his PICKUP truck.

So, what kind of flippin moron leaves a full auto gun in plain sight [OK it was in a gun bag] in a unlocked pickup truck, ESPECIALLY when there has been vehicle break ins in the area? Whoops, forgot to lock the truck does NOT cut it with me.

They said they were going to dicipline the officer but not terminate him [I damn well would] and that this just happens sometimes.

I am to the point that I am concluding that officers should have to leave their DUTY guns at the cop shop when off duty, and IF they want to carry it has to be one of their own guns. All the funshit swat guns must be at the dept unless the officer assigned is working, no more taking the full auto stuff home, you get a call, you pick it up.

    [Monroe County Sheriff dept. Michigan]

Haha, not a good month for UMPs...a Marshal just got his UMP + five or six mags and what I guess was an Eagle LE Plate Carrier jacked a while ago.

I think this is new incident, I thought the baseball game incident involved a 9mm colt AR.

I just cannt believe they're not going to fire the guy for being so stupid as to leave an UMP in an unlocked vehicle, hell I saw some shit where they fired a deputy in Fl because he had a myspace page that said he liked big boobies :mamoru: So its ok to lose a SMG but not ok to like big tits?

I could probably make a convincing argument that boobs are a more dangerous weapon than an SMG :o

I just figured the media would sensationalize the whole thing and claim a value of what it was worth 'on the street' ... much more than $1000.
