So, what's all the hate on CrossFit for?

    I can understand for people that are actually looking to get stacked/compete that it isn't an appropriate workout, but for anybody just looking to get in a better state of physical fitness, what's the problem?

    I'd never even heard of it until about ten minutes ago when I loaded up that thread about the dude building a CrossFit gym, but it sounds kind of badass.

    Are there reasons behind the hate? Is it a crappy workout, or what?

    I'm honestly curious because after reading a little bit about it it sounds like something I'd be interested in.

    That's kinda what I'm feeling too, but I'm honestly curious as to what people really think about this whole thing, and why F&N doesn't seem to be a huge fan of it.

    There's nothing wrong with crossfit.

    If you're out of shape, it will get you in shape. If all you want is to increase strength moderately and lean up to attain an athletic build it is perfect actually.

    If you want to push big numbers, gain mass, or be a BB'er you want nothing to do with it.

    As I said... Crossfit has its place.
    For some of us here (myself included) a crossfit routine/workout would only HURT my progress. For others, it might actually help them.

    Crossfit is great for staying healthy and functional, which is all most people really need. Dynamic and intense circuit training is fun and can be very hard.

    Having said that, some people have goals to which crossfit is counterproductive, ie. mass gain or strength gain or getting laid

    I think some of us would actually benefit from CF to build up a good basis and people to help them IRL.

    the exercises they use are great, the people seem to be in good shape, but they do stupid stuff like explosive movements for high reps

    plus I'm pretty sure manatees pick out the workouts

    I'll second this.

    I have good friends doing this and they're cool people but when CrossFit comes up they go on a tirade about how awesome it is, how navy seals use it, and how it's the best thing ever.

    I always throw in calisthetics with my weight routines. Gives me the stamina, and then I just be sure to push myself hardcore on the weights to keep up my strength. I guess I just like being able to curl a 1/3 of my body weight, and then if I had to, drop and churn out 100 in about 70-80 seconds.

    Seriously though, on a typical day, by the time I'm wrapping up my <30 min routine, I feel like passing out or throwing up.

    We've guys here on Seal platoon, and some are pretty buff, some are very lean. One of my good friends who is hardcore about being EOD, said he's been told weights=bad because it's just extra mass you have to carry. But I've seen some guys who can put ont he mass and handle it just fine.
