Obviously its a dell so its a piece of crap, but ive put my own parts in it. and its lasted me quite a while.

    specs:

Nvidia Geforce 6800 GT graphics card
    winxp

then the screen shows nothing after that. almost like the screen went into sleep mode or something. virus? graphics card? motherboard? damaged hardware? wtf is wrong with this thing? and how do i fix it??

graphics card could be overheating or breaking/broken in some other way
monitor could be screwy.. but that's less likely
video cable could be messed up.. but also unlikely unless you've been using it as a dog toy. those cables are pretty beefy
or could be interference of some kind.. lose a magnet lately?

connect the monitor to a different computer using the same monitor input and video cable and see if it has problems.. if not.. it's the graphics card.

does the graphics card have a fan on it? unplug the computer and blow some compressed air into the fan.. dust could have gotten into it and be stopping the fan.. which would make the card overheat and cause problems.

My laptop did the same thing. It is currently on its way to Dell to get the motherboard and video card replaced.

When the screen is screwed up like that upon boot, the card has overheated too much for too long and it's pretty much too late to do anything but replace it.

Never had anything virus-related do that. Normally the only thing that would contribute to such a POST/boot fuckup is failing hardware.
