    • Mt. Vesuvius

    • the Colliseum
    • Beaches

    • Rome
    • There's a fantastic Rec Field in a huge valley formed by a dormant volcano
    • New Years Eve in Naples is like WWIII :eek3:
    • and lots of day/weekend/week-long vacations around the country.
If you can't find something interesting/fun to do while stationed in Europe, you don't deserve to live. :hs:

DAMN Ranger that is a nice list of things to say you've experienced in life. Wish the Corps had some of the stations like that, least theres Japan(Im sooo commissioning a Katana to be made when I first get stationed there).

I'm stuck on phase one here for the next week :hs:

But at my old base, we just went to various bars and got smashed. Actually went to downtown Chicago a couple times but that got really old and really expensive really fast.

Being that I'm stationed in Hawaii, I don't have enough time to type all of the stuff I have or can do for fun on this island.

Back home I used to hunt or fish almost every single day, rain or shine. I can't do either here so I sit in my room all day and post on OT.

Anything fun around Lemoore requires lots of driving, because there's not much fun stuff anywhere near here. I spent last weekend up at Lake Tahoe, which was WELL worth the 5hr drive, but like I said, nothing is within less than at least a 20 minute drive. 3 months until I turn 21, then the real military fun begins :bigthumb:

If I want to go somewhere fun, I have to drive 1-3 hours to get somewhere good. But usually we just drink!

Overseas in Germany we did a lot of traveling to other countries since the driving isn't bad (I'm from Texas and used to driving). Visited the countryside, castles, sightseeing, festivals... even went to Aggie Muster at Heidelberg.

at Edwards AFB: drank, rode streetbikes and dirtbikes, party in LA, camp in the desert, raced at Willow Springs.

Misawa AB, Japan: drank in dorms, drank at home, drank in public, drank in bars... went to all the neighboring cities, took trips to Tokyo, went to Miyazaki-shi in Kyushu for 2 weeks and went to Ocean Dome with a bunch of American dance girls who worked at the dome. did a lot of camping, fishing, and driving all along the coast. raced and drifted cars in Hachinohe. took part in the Cherry Blossom (sakura) festival in Hirosakijo for 3 of 4 years... two weeks of nothing but drinking with strangers in a huge park on the grounds of an ancient castle and stared at blooming trees. no one speaks to you on the street, but during the sakura festival, everyone in japan treats each other like close family, sharing food, drink, and "rotsa raughs".

Dhaharan, KSA: wished we were in Bahrain so we could drink, went to Bahrain to drink, got blown up by an explosives laden fuel tanker.

Riyadh, KSA: caught scorpions to fight with the brits' scorpion in hopes of winning so we could drink their beer rations. we won once, got freakin lit... brits were out of beer for 2 weeks after that night. made fun of the frenchies. drank a lot of water. did a lot of weightlifting and running. much like prison, but with tents instead of cells.

Incirlik, Turkey: drank, drank, drank. toured the countryside. hit the beaches on the med. went to the wedding of a friend who knocked up a turkish chick. yep, knocked her up and married her with the family's blessing all in the span of 179 days. i think it was a first for our unit to bring back a civilian after going TDY.

Khandahar, Afghanistan: i rode a horse, that's about all that i could consider "fun" or "recreational".
