    i know, i'm a big pansy =0\
it's just 12 weeks is a big span of time to take off from my day job, and i've always had the mindset of "what if X or Y or X and Y at the same time?!"
i've been working out, but i lack the discipline to know i'll get through it...

have some confidence man. i've been thinking about joining up marines or army and going to OCS. i have all the confidence in the world i'll get through it. that's pretty much the first step is to believe you can do it.

I think if you fail OCS (at least in the army) you are assigned an Enlisted MOS.

When I went through OCS, failure was never an option, much less a thought in my mind.

For those who couldn't hack it, they went back to their old MOS or the College Op's had the option to be discharged (failure to adapt).

there is some ridiculous loop hole with this. I can't remember exactly, maybe someone can help me out. I believe it goes something like if you make it past a certain point and then fail ocs you are put into the army as an e-5 or e-6. Anyone else heard of this?

Not from what I saw...they either were dropped to E-4/SPC and given a slew of critical MOS's to pick from or they were given the option to be discharged for the reasons I stated previously.

thanks for your answers so far! Canada's a scary place, so I'm going to have to be sure I can get through OCS!

how much money should i save up for OCS?
From what I've read, meals/boarding are provided, and there's a place to park (but not access) your car, right? Entertainement is a no-go; I guess free time will be rather limited (if at all)

I guess I'll need 12 weeks worth of rent (since I'm doing reserve, after OCS I'll be going back to my apartment), or maybe just 12 weeks worth of space at a storage facility + a few nights at a motel, during which I can go apartment hunting.

I'm sure I'm forgetting lots of things, so... yah....

That sounds more like quitting than failing.

of course, wouldn't you want to be able to send people home instead of just letting them become officers?

ARMY OCS provides everything for you, lodging, meals, parking for your car. when i went through it we were treated just like privates in bootcamp (which i had just graduated only days before). you dont get the privilege of living off post until you goto OBC.

they changed OCS since then and i think midway through you are given senior status and have nights and limited weekends off. no drinking because you are still an initial entry soldier. you get to wear a cool ascot though :)

i am sure the other branches are similar

bottom line: you are better off by not quitting OCS, the Army retains you one way or another. It is much better to grind it out and be 2LT rather than becoming a SPC non promotable for 4 years.

other branches have a discharge clause form what i understand

of course, but people quit and some people are kicked out because they can't hack it.

that is different from failing still, failing is going in there and trying and not being able to pass a test designed for a retard or do a fairly normal amount of physical fitness training that even private pile could pull off after a couple weeks of practice...

One of my friends from basic went to OCS and his company got to go out and drink on weekends, but other companies didn't get to go out at all. He made it sound like drinking was allowed and not just something they got away with.
