Is it accurate or is it just something marketing people have made up to try and get the atkins douchebags to buy their product?

Example, on a high fiber tortilla I buy for wraps it has 23g of carbs and 16 grams of fiber, and there's a big thing on the bag that says 'only 7 grams of NET carbs!!!!'

So if I were a carb counter that would be accurate? Fiber negates carbs?

If I go by net carbs I would only subtract the fibre content.

The net carb thing is because some companies want to get people on the low-carb fad to buy their products. Their idea is :
Total carbs - fiber - sugar alcohols = net carbs (total carbs used as energy by the body).

Fiber and sugar alcohols aren't supposed to be use as energy while it in fact is, to a certain extent. I think fiber has like 2.2 cals/g instead of 4 cals/g.

If you're going to count net carbs and stuff like that, you just need to stop obsessing...

I'm not obsessing, I was just curious if it was a ploy or what.

I just limit my carbs at certain times of the day, not counting them. Oh, and obviously whole grain breads/rice/pasta not the white stuff.

Is the 2.2 cal/g the same for solube and insoluble fibre?

As I said, because of fitday I've always listed my carb total to be minus fibre content.

And in for obsessive/ compulsive crew.:wavey:

i read something about how soluble fiber doesn't directly contribute any cal's to the body or raise blood sugar. The cals come from colon bacteria that use it to make fatty acids

I think it's correct. BUT then if you're really anal such as Timber :o you should take into account that insoluble fiber accelerates the speed at which the food passes through the gastrointestinal tract and that soluble fiber forms a gel which contains some of the fat that we eat, so there's a certain loss of calories there. So it kinda cancel each other out.
