This Wednesday there was a ND at my local range (Markham Park). It's pretty surprising that it happened there because Markham has got to be one of the most strict shooting ranges in the country, you're not even allowed to touch your weapon or bring it to the firing line with a range officer's permission and whatnot, so it's surprising that an ND actually happened.

Supposedly the ND happened when someone was putting their rifle back in it's case on the back benches and the bullet went through the back building and into the Broward Sherriff's Office satellite office room thing (nobody was in there at the time.

Now Markham has gotten even more strict, they removed all back benches and are putting gun racks on the firing line so your weapon never leaves the firing line and they're now limiting the amount of shooters at one time to 8 shooters for every 1 range officer and during the week there's mabye 2 RO's there at one time and about 30 shooters at a time with 50+ open lanes, on the weekends all lanes are taken and you can expect a wait time of upwards of 90+ minutes just to get a slot on the range, now the waiting is going to be even worse with the 8 shooters per 1 RO limit.

I would never go to Markham, but they're the only rifle range even remotely close to me so i've got no other option.

At the indoor range I was at last weekend theres a row of benches behind the booths. As I was walking out some kid sitting on the bench just finished loading the chamber of his revolver and closed it as I was leaving. It made me uneasy, but I was leaving.

Dayum. At my range it's a free for all. No RO, no nothing. Open 24/7 and floodlights at the pistol range to boot.

Threads like this remind me how lucky I am to have the range I belong to close by.

All non-intentional discharges are due to some form of negligence though, there are no "accidents".

you are right, you'd be much safer at a busy range with no rules what so ever

    no range is 100% safe

The range i go to is owned by former cops and is mostly used by cops. No one really monitors you, they just ask what you're firing when you take a lane. (indoor, handguns only) Theres only like 8 lanes but a couple are always open

Man, that would be pretty freaky. The ranges here have RO's sometimes they are jerks, most of the time they are nice guys who just want to make sure no one gets hurt from stupid people.
