but in more pictures than not, he overexposes pictures with the wedding dress. we really like him but i'd like to tell him to watch out for that. would it be offensive to say something to him about it?

also, could you guys suggest any photographers? the wedding is going to be in Chattanooga, TN so most photographers from Atlanta to Knoxville will travel to cover.

it really depends on what all comes with the packages. here is his site

    http://imagopix.com/?load=flash

he also has a thing for having something in the background so large that he tries to fit it in and you cannot tell who the people are b/c he is so far back. i really only have 3 concerns with his pictures, other than that i like them.

they provide a lot for the money, especially reprint rights

this is the other we like but they are hella expensive compared to others/packages

so then you're choosing a photographer who's style you don't actually like? :ugh:

It's kind of ridiculous for you to pick a photographer, then ask him to shoot like a different photographer... If that's what you're expecting, you should probably also expect to be let down.

its not his style, its basic photography to not overexpose pictures. i dont mind the large background image b/c it is generally something of significance to the event, like the front of the church. however, overexposed pictures of a wedding dress is like having a firing squad with no fingers. it defeats the purpose

This guy's rates are pretty cheap considering what he's offering. If you like him, go for it. However I would ask him to show you some prints first. His "overexposed" dresses may simply be his web file prep and his prints look fine.

gotta disagree with ya there. Looking at his portfolio, he doesn't seem to have an issue with basic photography at all. He keeps a very good amount of highlight detail in other areas of all of his images, and most of the time the dress is blown out, it's done so in order to create an angelic, glowing aura around the bride...it's intentional.

Also, if you even think for a second that your wedding photographer has problems with basic photography skills, why the hell would you consider hiring that person to shoot one of the most important events in your life?

    :hsd: good luck.

which takes me back to my original question. do you think it is offensive to ask not to do that? considering i'm the paying customer and all

Not at all. Tell him that, while you like his style, you want to hire him, etc., that being a photographer yourself, you like to see the details kept in the dress. Ask him if this will be a problem for him. You're correct in that you're the client and if he can't deliver what you want, find someone who will....

When I get married I've alreayd picked a few people I want to consider, and yes they are OTers!

What I love about this is I get to see all the work you do and can accurately make the choice on that.

Also local people really seem to SUCK a lot

Most of us are a plane ticket away and we strive to do better for OTers since we are here all the time and it's such a closer community. Just a thought.
