like new condition for $1300 :eek3:

I hear its awesome quality but the focus speed is a bit slow :hs:

I really don't need to spend any more money, but I really want a long lens :noes:

the government wants us to spend money right now to re-vitalize this economy. it's your civic duty to get it.

I'm hoping to be able to buy the Canon 300 2.8 IS this summer... It'll be my "duty" to support the American economy while I'm in DC for the summer ;)

How's the 70-200 for basketball? Did you find yourself needing more reach?

a 70-200 is more than long enough for basketball.

    I think I want to try a 105 f/2 or 85 1.4 for basketball next.

unless you bring a 400 to shoot the other end of the court, but even then you won't likely get very good isolation between the players/ crowd behind the goal.

I know this is directed at xenon, but I shoot basketball exclusively with my 70-200. I find it's perfect when I'm sitting around the baseline/3 point line and covers what I need.

At LEAST a 400 IMO. Especially since youre on full frame and and 12MP. 300 could cover the infield but even the 400 on my MkIII was still lacking for some long outfield shots. 400+1.4 is where its at.

A 300/2.8 for 1300 is on hell of a deal. I have no clue about Nikon and AF-I stuff though. If its slow, I wouldnt bother with it.

If theres one thing Ive learned from photography, it would be that you should save up and do it right and do it once.

I shot baseball once and used the 80-200 with a 2x tele.

Since it is so bright out I stopped down to 6.3 and got decently sharp pics.

even if I had $3,000 to spend, theres no way I'd dump it on a 300 2.8 AF-S II VR

I sent the guy another email saying 1300 was just too much and i really wanted to buy it, but he was going to have to help me out a little. he seems pretty desperate to sell. I bet I can get him down a bit more. we'll see :dunno:

Nice. Those are very sharp for a 2x teleconverter.

    Thanks all.

I would love a 300 2.8, but I know damn well that I would use my WA and UWA 10x more.
