What preventative steps should I take to make sure it lasts a very long time?

    Weaknesses of the LS2?

    Weaknesses of the tranny?

Obviously it's going to get religious oil changes and other fluid changes as appropriate.

I've never owned a new car before, just used ones :o

check the differential periodicly. GM pretty much solved the problems with the leaking rear ends, but there are occasional trouble units out there.

Also look for the suspension fixer kits, so you can eliminate wheel hop. It's cheap and well worth it.

I haven't felt any wheel hop at all yet :dunno:

Always floor it, especially when its cold. And when you drive, drive at a constant speed - DO NOT speed up or slow down at all if you can help it - for miles at a time.

i hope you really know to do just the opposite.

Read the owners manual for proper break in.

I couldn't remember the speed up/slow down part, but I definitely knew not to floor it all the time :hsugh:

oh, and first oil change is at 500 miles, the next at 1500, then begin the 3k miles intervals

i dont care what the manual says, unless they say more frequent, do this.

this is full oil change too, meaning change the filter.

oh yeah... on the 4th oil change (~7500 miles) begin using fully synthetic oil. I recommend mobile 1. But dont do it before then as the motor will not seat properly.
