Most of my life I've been pretty skinny up until about a year ago when I put on 30+ pounds (maxed out at 226.5, now I'm down to 199). I'm 19 years old, currently 199 lbs, and 6'5". I have a very average build with a smallish frame. I have a little muscle but nothing really worth mentioning. I don't have any specific weight-related goals because I'm not really sure what to expect since I've never bulked before.

I'm going to get a gym membership sometime this week. I mainly want to hit free weights. Here's my pending routine I just threw together. I didn't put much thought into it, I just tried to hit all the primetime muscles in there within a week. It's a 3-day-a-week routine, but I might find a way to stretch it out to 4 days, but a day of rest inbetween each workout sounds find to me. Maybe throw some cardio inbetween there or something.

    Day 1:
    Seated curl
    Tricep extension
    Bench Press
    Dumbell Fly
    Reverse Curl

    Day 2:
    Bent over row/lying row
    Shrug Inclined
    Shoulder Raise
    Chin ups/Pull ups
    Deadlifts
8 minute abs :o and/or swiss ball with weights

    Day 3:
    Squats
    Calf raises
    Behind neck press
    Upright row

How's the routine look? Just a quick question: is it okay to go in there and just find a comfortable weight to use, and keep upping it until I really have to push for, say, 8 reps and 5 sets? Or do I have to find my max and use percentages of that? And for diet... With strenuous activity for 4-5 days a week, I'll burn through ~4500 calories a day accord to harris-benedict. Does that sound about accurate? (199 lbs, 77 in, 19 years old)

Thanks for any help :o I'm sure I'll have more questions in a couple days. Here's a pic as of today:

The main thing is going to be eating a fuckload of protein, and lifting extremely hard and heavy at the gym. High weight, low reps (ie 4-8). You'll get a feel for how much weight you should use the first few times, and then just steadily increase it every time you lift.

Thanks for all the help so far. It sounds like a good idea to slowly up my calorie intake. How many calories do you think I should be eating? And how much protein? And yeah, I think bulking should be more fun. I really love food and I think going to the gym should be a nice step out of the ordinary. I can't wait. :noes:

Based on what i've read and learned over time...you wanna go from bigger muscle groups to smaller ones. So in Day 1, you can do the Bench Press and Flies first. Your day 2 looks ite, but you should move your shoulder press later and add more shoulder exercises. Somehow I feel like you're missing something, but I'm not sure what it is...

Looking at it now I don't really have many leg exercises other than the DLs and squats. :hs:

Someone sent me a PM a while ago suggesting christopher's routine. I think I might try it out first and adjust it more for my needs later.

Christophers routine IS pretty awesome. It doesn't seem like much but dang does it work you good. It makes your legs feel strong and swole all the time.

Like I said, I'm really not sure yet since I've never put on any weight intentionally, so I have absolutely no idea at what rate I could be bulking. I'm just going to have to go with the flow.
