I was having a problem with not being able to watch anything with either VLC or WMP. It would just freeze the video and play the sound only. I had the current video drivers and someone suggested installing my chipset drivers since I had just formatted a new hard drive and started fresh.

Now that I finally got the video to work the first program I use either vlc or wmp i open the video up and it freezes the player and I force it closed and then it'll play in the opposite program fine.

    Anyone had this problem before?

I never use WMP. VLC plays everything I ever want to play.

What type of file is it? (not that it matters, i've never found anything VLC wouldn't play). OS? system specs?

It doesn't matter what type of file it is, avi or mpg.

    I have a 2.66mhz Pentium D Dual Core, 1gb of ram, 533mhz FSB, 160gb of HD space.

    Try WinAmp instead.
