... until he crushed his finger last Friday. :noes:

He was unloading a hummer with three other guys. They went to unload a large container from the back, and the guy that was on John's side lost his grip. The container crushed the bones in his little finger. I suppose as far as broken bones goes, if you're going to break a bone, the little finger is a good one to break. :hs:

He said he had to go all over the base to get it looked after. In the end, they just gave him a popsicle stick splint and some tylenol w/codiene and sent him on his way. Crushed bone between the 2nd and 3rd knuckle, and a fracture between the 1st and 2nd knuckle. He is pissed as hell that this might delay his deployment - and worried as fuck that they might keep him in the rear detachment because of it.

On a lighter note - he'll be spending Christmas with me! :coold:

What happens in 30 hours? :noes:

I talked with my son again today. He says he will still be able to deploy with his unit. They were thinking about putting a pin in his finger, but decided against it.

That would be pretty neat. At bars, when he gets his check and the waiter offers him a pen, he could say "No thanks, I've got one right here" and sign it with his pen-finger.
