We were out looking at some lens rentals because she wants me to take some headshots of her and I wanted to try something better than my kit lens.

While were were doing this, it occurs to her she works at a place that sells tv & film (video) cameras and accessories. They don't sell still photography stuff, but she does get discounts on products from the companies they buy from, with Canon being one of them.

One of the lenses we were looking at was the EF 17-300mm IS and I happened to like the feel of it. We were at a store and the cost was ~$650 there (cheaper online I know) and she mentioned her cost on something like that would be probably in the $400 range.

Can anyone recommend any other lenses that I should have her check out price wise? I'm looking to upgrade my kit lens and the 2 things I enjoy taking photos of the most are scenery and macro's.

    17-300 IS for $400.

might want to double check some info, 17-85 IS maybe, 75-300 IS maybe. no such thing as a 17-300 period

:o I'll have to double-check what I wrote down then. I was looking at a few at the same time so I probably fucked up some numbers. It was a Canon lens that went to n-300mm and had IS and was priced at $650. Lemme check...

Well, I'm not a pro and this is still a hobby to me at the core of it.

I'll see what she gets for prices on this god like "L" glass you all speak of.

Its probably Circuit City or Best Buy, where they only carry alot of the lower end lenses like the 70-300 and random lenses

If you have a 20d/30d/40d or any of the Rebels, Canon 10-22 for scenery. Canon 100mm for macro.

 I wanted to trade mine in for one but I couldn't find the color in an 5-speed. I loved the interior on the 01's.
