They had a "Health and Fitness" edition the other day, and check out some of these main points:

-"cardiovascular or aerobic is the best way to burn fat." :ugh:

-"during weightlifting, you challenge your body with resistance. in turn, muscles will adapt and grow stronger. the muscle will take a sculpted and more toned physique, but not the big and bulky muscles." :ugh: :ugh: :ugh: :ugh: :ugh: :ugh: :ugh:

-"one benefit of leaner muscles is a faster metabolism. calories burn faster, even at rest. for each extra pound of muscle, you'll burn 12,000 calories a year without having to lift a finger." :ugh: :ugh: :ugh:

i read stuff like this and it suddenly makes sense why America is so fat and out of shape.

Well they all seem somewhat accurate to a certain degree... Cardio burns calories during the activity, much more than weights. Muscles do grow, and it is pretty hard to look 'big and bulky'--concern mostly shared by women--without a good long time.

most people dont realize that your diet is like 85% of your work out...if you dont eat correctly, you won't lose weight. If she threw that in there with the cardio it might have sounded a little better

a pound of muscle only needs 5-8 cal/day to be maintained. That number should be more like 2500 calories a year.

Mustang Daily always has crappy articles. The writers are just plain horrible. If you want to see student journalism on a higher level, check out Cuesta's paper. Of course, Cuesta only puts out a paper every few weeks instead of daily.

Who cares, it will get people lifting and exercising, people dont want to read a PhD thesis on why its better to run at 76% of your max heart rate, not 75%

Did you read their article on the triple fines a few weeks ago. It made no sense. There math was way off, reading it put you in a state of confusion. Some how they thought our fine is now near SB when it is like 200 dollars more than SB's now.

Oh well the paper passes time in my boring classes, so cant complain to much.

    1 lb of muscle x 7 calories per day(avererage) x 365 days = 2555 calories per year
