3.4 on stock air cooling   ... Gotta love 4mb L2 full speed cache.

    & $49 for 2gb Patriot/OCZ 800mhz RAM ;) ... Not a bad little system for right under $250 that'll add to my rendering cluster.

i built my brother an ecs based system almost 5 yrs ago. Hardware-wise, it's still running perfectly.

My 2 ECS boards run fine, they are budget computers, if I was building a higher end comp, I would use ASUS or EVGA

3.4GHz? that's it? that chip can do more than that. aim for 3.8GHz
that ecs mobo might be holding you back though.

wait,.. aren't you the one telling that the AMD 6000+ was a better buy? :squint:

ECS motherboards,.. very basic, bland, and boring.
Compaq and HP use ECS mobos.
Limited BIOS options for an enthusiasts.
    It is crap.

The cache is nice, but you can thank the G0 stepping for the huge OC. 6600s shipping with 4mb of cache without G0 stepping aren't hitting speeds anywhere near their G0 brethren.

The ECS is crap for a high end build, but in a budget situation they pull through quite nicely. I don't plan on OCing my Linux machine that uses an ECS mobo, it works great for what I used it. I hate computer snobs that think the only good computer uses the best parts and costs pockets full of money.

Yes, its true they are used in all the Dell's, HPs, etc,etc.. wanna know why???

their latest mobos/releases are EXACT dups of Intel's reference boards:mamoru:

Yeah.. ok.. So I get a combo deal that they through in a Intel based board for free...

There was some dude in Nigeria a few years ago who built a BMW from scrap parts. It was a BMW, but I sure as hell wouldn't drive it.

Quality of construction is not the same as quality of design.

i have an ecs board in my pc. it's an amd athlon 64 3000+, not exactly new stuff, but i mostly use it to rip/burn dvds etc. no gaming or overclocking

i've had it for 2 years and it hasn't given me a single problem. it was a budget board, but thats all i needed - it was like $40
, it replaced a gigabyte board that kept giving me weird beep codes.

i'd be tempted to buy it, but no fry's in my area and i don't see it on outpost.com

    Wait a fuckin minute,...

Your statement made me realize that like Intel mobos, ECS mobos offer no or very little overclocking options.

    E6550's has a locked multiplier of 7. (333 x 7 = 2.33GHz)

You have to have 485 FSB to reach 3.4GHz.

Pics for proof? I call bullshit.

I used to get weird beep codes from my dad's audio recording computer if it was unplugged for more than a couple of minutes. I eventually figured out it was the power supply.

Maybe the new board just isn't as picky about voltage as the old one was.

it weird because I called gigabyte, let them listen to the beep code and they told me it was bad ram. so, i swapped it out for different ram, same trouble. i even booted it without ram and got the same problem. however the weird part is that it would only happen most of the time, after booting it maybe 5 times, it would boot perfectly.
i tried everything with that board, changed out the power supply (was my second guess to bad ram), tried booting it with no cards or ide connections attached. i even reflashed the bios

i said screw it, i still have the board if anyone wants it

:werd:, ECS is great for a budget build. I don't see the point in putting a $150 mobo in a $300 computer. Shows how much these idiots know.

And don't blame me for doubting you,... you are not the only one who bought that fry's deal.

the best overclocks i've seen on other forums is only 3.2GHz,... lower on review sites.
