and she's going to give it to me. It's a 4 inch .357... How much kick do these things have compared to say a XD .40?

More, but not unmanageable or uncomfortable.

Of course, they were carried back in the days of real cops, so any of us would probably break our wrists trying to shoot it.

Post pics when you get it!

Among other pieces, I've got my old man's 6" Python with lots of holster wear. :coold: All the pics from the 70's of big guns, mustaches, and sleeves rolled up.

4" .357 service revolver will be quite manageable - not like it's some airweight snubbie that's nearly outmassed by the five rounds on the cylinder...

I just got the Airlight .357 (340sc), it weighs a whopping 12oz and like you said the 5 rounds weigh almost as much as the gun. Am I going to hurt myself when I get it out to the range? :x:

It will make you want to carry 38SPL rounds.

The first time you shoot it take 10 .357 rounds. Shoot them first. You will quickly realize that the gun was made to use .38 spl or +p's at the most.

Besides, .38 is about the same size as 9mm, heavier and with more powder. Unless you are hunting deer with it (god help you if you are) .38 will take down as well as any of the big 3.

Back when my department carried revolvers, you could only carry the .357 if you shot .38 quall with a high enough score. There are still some Officers that carry the good old revolver today.
