I just found out from my best friend who i've been friends with since like 3 years old is being commissioned in the army on Tuesday . He just graduated from college and is going to Ohio State medical school (he starts next week actually). It would have cost him $250,000 by the time his first 4 years of med school were up, so he is joining the army and they're going to pay for all of it, then he has to serve ~4 years as a doctor in the army when he's all finished with med school. I knew he was thinking about doing it for a while but I never thought he'd actually go through with it. Even though he's being commissioned on Tuesday, he'll be just like a regular civilian until he graduates from med school. He was bragging to me about how he gets to carry an M9 and stuff and how he'll be a captain when he gets out . There's no fucking way i'm calling him sir and saluting him when I earn the title... well, mabye in a sarcastic way .
